Art, Featuring ‘Made in Abyss’

Featured Image: Cover art of Made in Abyss Volume 1 by Akihito Tsukushi.

I’m falling in love with the artwork of Akihito Tsukushi, and maybe also with him personally just a little bit. I don’t think I was aware of him or his work until just recently when I stumbled upon it, but I have found at least one place on the internet where he hangs out.

The featured image both here and on this post comes from his four-part comic book series Made in Abyss, which is unfortunately unavailable in English. The artwork is certainly stunning. Information on the series is scanty, but it is apparently about a plucky young girl and a boy robot who explore a giant cave system full of fantastic critters.

I don’t know if the story’s any good, but it sounds promising, and in any case, it’s clear that it would be worth reading simply for the visual feast, akin perhaps to Dinotopia or Neotopia. Who cares what the story is when you can look at that art?

Art and Brief Update

Featured art: “Momo” by Coco-Sweet

I spent last weekend drafting fifty pages of Jake and the Dynamo, but, unfortunately, the pages I drafted are for the final chapter rather than for the next one.

I was having some trouble with the next chapter because I was trying to decide if it should be the one that advances the plot, or the beach episode. But I think I’ve figured it out now.

Maintenance

Featured image: “Nyo!England Magical Girl” by black-feather1013.

Tonight is maintenance night for me. I’m going to do some rearranging and see about updating some of the other hosting sites, which have been languishing.

I intend to have new content up tomorrow. No, really.

I’m way behind where I want to be on reviews, but I’m struggling to adjust to a new schedule. The little spare time I have, I want to devote mostly to Jake and the Dynamo.

The site’s also due for an overhaul. I might go rearranging things this weekend. Nothing too drastic, but some improvements in organization. I’m still mulling over changing the theme, but the ones I would want cost money I don’t have right now, and the present one is fairly versatile, if unadorned.

J&tD in Thirty!

Editing the twenty-first chapter of Jake and the Dynamo took me longer than I expected, so it doesn’t look like I’ll get another post up today …

… but I’m gonna go ahead and post the chapter early.  Expect it in thirty minutes!

JAKE AND THE DYNAMO Will Update Monday

Featured Image: “Magical Girl Marisa (Miss America)” by PencilTales.

Crazy week for me. Sorry for the absence.

Chapter 21 of Jake and the Dynamo is almost ready to go. Dana and Chelsea finally square off in Magical Girl Rumble, and the winner in the contest will get a kiss from T.B., the effete yet rakish idol of Juban High!

If Dana wins, will her short-lived magical girl career end in unrelieved pining? After all, they say a lot of girls are wasting away because of T.B. And what of Chelsea? Will this destroy her relationship with Jake? They say once you’ve had T.B., you never really get over it.

Y’know, I don’t think I realized when I started writing this that Dana was going to pick a fight with everyone she met. Jake really can’t take her anywhere.
