I’m on a writing kick, so you’ll have to excuse the lack of meaningful blog content. In the meanwhile, enjoy this small but highly detailed image of a magical girl.

Meet the ‘Jake and the Dynamo’ Paperback

Large, luxurious, very readable, and suitable for coffee tables.

I am really pleased and impressed by the paperback release of Jake and the Dynamo. As you can see here, Lee Madison’s cover art transferred beautifully.

Getting the physical copy in my hand, I was able to appreciate some of the art I’d not been able to get a good look at before, such as the spine:

Spine of Jake and the Dynamo with Pretty Dynamo emblem and lightning boltI had assumed the spine would probably be unadorned, so I was pleased to see the title logo accompanied by Pretty Dynamo’s insignia and a lightning bolt. The back is also great:

Art by Damian DarkBane

And you have no idea what I went through to find wholesome Nanoha fan art. Seriously. I think this is a great image, but it’s also the one I’ve chosen to post because it’s just about the only one that’s safe for work.

I’m still making my way through StrikerS. I’m watching it slowly because, well, I’m kind of busy. I hope to have a review up this weekend.

Art Post: Image by SeenasArt (and some other stuff)

We haven’t had an art post in a while, so I thought it was time for one. Gazing on magical girls is just so … so soothing …

Also, I found one of those stupid online quizzes, this one asking the question, “Would you be a magical girl?” It’s posed like a personality test, though it’s really more of a test of how well you know the genre’s tropes. I probably could have got 100% if it hadn’t asked me my age and sex. Anyway, props to me:

Would You be a Magical Girl?
Your Result: You are a regular magical girl!
Though well grounded in realism, your desire to help others eventually leads you to become a magical girl. You gain sympathy from others, but aren’t close friends with anyone. Once you realize your destiny of becoming a witch, you quickly fall into despair due to loneliness.

You are a nurturing magical girl!

You are the heroine of all magical girls!

You are a mysterious magical girl!

You would not become a magical girl.

Uh … reading that more closely, I just realized it’s based on Madoka. Dammit, why is everything Madoka these days?

Oh, and don’t forget I have a novel out. Have I mentioned that? Get it here. Expect the paperback in a few days.

At Long Last: ‘Amulet,’ Volume 8

If you’re not familiar with Amulet, the all-ages graphic novel series by Kazu Kibuishi, you should ask yourself what you’ve been doing with your life.

Kibuishi was the mastermind behind the incredibly good Flight anthology, and he started Amulet—a grim but family-friendly science fiction/fantasy mashup—many, many moons ago. In fact, I first heard of the series back when I was closely following Jeff Smith, creator of Bone, so that should have been, oh, a good decade past. Indeed, the Wikipedia page indicates that the first volume made its appearance in 2008.

‘Jake and the Dynamo’ Cover Art is Finished.

Just got the cover art for Jake and the Dynamo. I’m pretty excited. I think I have to wait to show it to you, but stay tuned.

Tesla’s New Look

I just got another update on the cover art for Jake and the Dynamo, which included this steampunkish image of Pretty Dynamo’s familiar, Tesla the lightning bug.

Hmm …

I believe this is the final version of Pretty Dynamo for the cover of my soon-to-be-released novel, Jake and the Dynamo: The Wattage of Justice.

What do you all think?

Jake Blatowski’s New Look

Oh man, what a hunk. No wonder Dana wouldn’t stop pestering him after he sat next to her in class.

He looks like he’s about to go on a crazy adventure after getting sucked into a Nintendo …

And I like the Velcro sneakers. Not only can Jake not graduate to high school like a normal kid, he can’t tie his own shoes. This works for me.

Although this isn’t something I would make a big issue of, I did ask the artist if he could consider darkening Jake up a bit. He’s supposed to be rather tawny; although, if asked, he’ll say he’s Polish, he doesn’t look Polish.
