JAKE AND THE DYNAMO Gets a TVTropes Page!

Some kind soul has gone to the trouble of producing a page on TVTropes for Jake and the Dynamo. I really appreciate it, and I’ll be interested to see if the page grows over time as the novel continues.

My first thought, upon looking over the particular tropes that the page’s creator has picked out … actually, my first thought is that the book sounds kind of pervy.

So let me suggest some additional tropes that might balance that a bit. In no particular order:

Magical Girl Warrior: Most of the cast.

World of Action Girls: The premise.

Cast Full of Crazy: Self-explanatory.

Aliens Speaking English: Because I couldn’t crack all those jokes otherwise.

Crapsaccharine World: A world full of cutesy magical girls where getting pancaked by monsters is considered commonplace. Also, being meguca is suffering.

Supporting Protagonist: Pretty much the gimmick, as Pretty Dynamo has all the superpowers, but the story is told from Jake’s POV.

Action Survivor: Jake’s power is not getting killed even when everything is out to get him.

Gosh Dang It to Heck: They swear like cartoon characters in Urbanopolis. Watch out for Chelsea’s cluster-frick bombs.

Badbutt: Because it pretends to be family-friendly except not really. Pretty Dynamo might qualify for this. The Moon Princess’s personal gang of thuggish magical girls definitely do. And Sukeban Tsubasa, to appear later, is a parody of this trope.

City of Adventure: Urbanopolis, where the world comes to you.

Where the Hell is Springfield?: Don’t ever expect me to tell you where Urbanopolis is located on a map.

Rude Hero, Nice Sidekick: Pretty Dynamo and Jake.

Big Brother Instinct: Why Jake keeps coming back for more punishment.

Action Duo: Dynamo and Jake are the badass/action survivor pair, though he has to babysit her more often than the other way around.

Minnesota Nice: Bossy the cow.

Desperately Craves Affection: Miss Percy.

Hates Being Touched: Pretty Dynamo.

Conservation of Competence: The Dark Queen and her minions.  Aaand the magical girls.

General Failure: The Dark Queen.

I Work Alone: Pretty Dynamo works alone. Except when she works with Tesla. Which is all the time.

Held Back in School: Jake, and with a vengeance. Because the universe is out to get him.

The Gunslinger: Rifle Maiden.

The Butt Monkey: Jake.

Familiar: Most every magical girl has one.

Mentor Mascot: Overlaps with the familiar, naturally.

Geek: Do not ask Jake about his dinosaur cartoons.

Dude, She’s Like, in a Coma!: See next chapter.
